Rugby Student Shines On and Off the Field
Elliot Rensch, sport student at East Sussex College’s Lewes campus, is set to progress to university following his success in the Papa Johns Cup rugby final.
Elliot has excelled during his time at East Sussex College and was also a big part of the Rugby Academy. Following his success in May’s Papa Johns Cup final, where he captained Crowborough Colts to a 28-15 victory against Thanet Wanderers, Elliot caught up with the College to share his experiences ahead of progression to university.
“The experience was really good,” said Elliot. “I was Captain of the Crowborough Colts rugby team so it was brilliant to be able to be given the opportunity to train and play with the first team and then ultimately play in the final. Winning the game created a whole different atmosphere that I had never felt before.
“Playing at the Saracens ground was a surreal experience I didn't think would ever happen. We had three coach loads of supporters from Crowborough RFC and the atmosphere was electric. It was great to be cheered on.”
Elliot studies sport at ESC Lewes and has been part of the Rugby Academy. Speaking about his time on the course, Elliot said, “Studying sport has helped me gain skills in rugby as there are specific modules which go into depth about tactics and techniques allowing me to gain knowledge.
“Throughout my time at Lewes college the tutoring has been amazing. I have felt really supported by my tutors who have helped, guided and encouraged me every step of the way. They have believed in me and have been proud of my achievements.”
Following his successful time studying at ESC Lewes, Elliot told the College about what’s next. He said, “After studying at college I will be going to Exeter University to study sport and exercise science with a master in physiotherapy.”
