Student Project Raises Money For Stonewall

The Enrichment Teams across East Sussex College ensured that Pride Month is being celebrated with colourful bunting and other activities on each campus to showcase the value the College places on diversity.

A badge making machine was purchased by the Enrichment Team at the request of a student for use at the Lewes campus in line with their idea to sell badges to raise money for Stonewall as part of the celebrations.

The opportunity which was provided through the Enrichment Team and facilitated with the help of Enrichment Co-ordinator, Tessa Echalaz, helped raise £35.

Student Jude Dean was instrumental in driving the activity said, “I am very thankful to have the opportunity to help the Stonewall charity with the support of this college. Stonewall has influenced legislation such as the 2002 Adoption and Children Act allowing gay and lesbian families the same rights as heterosexual families when it comes to adoption. Stonewall was founded in retaliation to section 28, a collection of laws prohibiting promotion of homosexuality. With the money we raised we can get Stonewall closer to the future change they are working for. Thank you to all the people that bought or made a badge, I had a blast and would love to do something like this again.”

The badges were designed to appeal to a range of students to ensure badges enabled a wide demographic of staff and students to show their support, which was greatly appreciated.

.We will be providing more opportunities that allow students to showcase their ideas to contribute to their community and wider communities, and embrace giving to others, kindness, and other altruistic behaviours.

If you would like to get involved in enrichment activities or have ideas, contact tessa.echalaz@ecsg.ac.uk for the Lewes Campus or your Enrichment Co-ordinator at other campus locations.
