Hey everyone! The sun is finally making an appearance, so don't forget to take a moment to soak it up! 🌞 This week, we've been celebrating Neurodiversity Week at Plaza, with a variety of events and activities to raise awareness and promote inclusivity.

Neurodiversity event @ Station Plaza
Story by student: Rhianna Bowley
This week, we celebrated Neurodiversity week at Station Plaza. We had a student-led event that featured a wide range of stalls from various local charities and organisations, including Aspens, iRock, and Eggtooth. Alongside this, we had an exhibition showcasing stories from some of the College’s neurodiverse students.
The event was proudly organised by Personalised Provision student Rhianna Bowley as part of her work experience placement, with the support of student experience coordinator Paige-Marie Baker-Carroll, who is also neurodiverse.
Rhianna said, “I am very passionate about inclusion and neurodiversity, and I want it to be more recognised and showcased in the college. Our exhibition is accessible for everyone, so we used neutral colors as some students may have found color overwhelming, and we were very excited to have some local neurodiversity charities attending too.”
A special thank you was also extended to Courtney and Tom for being part of the exhibition and sharing their stories, as well as A-Level Photography student Crystal Armstrong for organising the photographs.
East Sussex College is committed to celebrating differences and encouraged students to take the lead in shaping events that promoted inclusivity and awareness.
East Sussex Climate Change Survey
The climate and health survey is officially live.
https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/public-health/climate-and-health
We want to hear about the effects of extreme weather, natural disasters, or environmental problems on your wellbeing. In 2023, the government reported the latest evidence showing the health effects of climate change in the UK. We'd like to assess how climate change is affecting the health outcomes of people specifically in East Sussex.
Why your view matters
The assessment will support us to develop plans for protecting people's health and wellbeing in the future. Learning about your experience of any climate change issues in your area, and the impact these have on you will inform our assessment.
Examples of climate issues include:
Drought
Wildfires
Flooding and erosion
Extreme temperatures (e.g., heatwaves and extreme cold)
Strength of sun exposure and ultraviolet rays
Air quality and pollution
Spread of disease and infections
Taking part
The survey takes roughly five minutes to complete.
You can use the ‘Save and come back later…’ button at the end of each page if you don’t want to complete the survey all in one go.
A summary of the survey is given in the 'Take a look at the survey topics before you start:' section near the bottom of the page.
If you need support to take part or need the survey printed and posted to you, in large print or on coloured paper, or in another format please get in touch using the contact details provided.
Next steps
The results of the survey will inform the development of the East Sussex Climate Change Health Impact Assessment. A report about the assessment will be made available at the end of the year on the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) website.
Our new student governor for Hastings and Ore Valley
There has recently been an election campaign underway at the Hastings & Ore Valley campus to fill a single vacancy for a Student Governor.
Students were invited to nominate their preferred candidates. We received a total of 7 nominations (of which 1 was subsequently withdrawn).
Following a ballot process, which closed at midday on Friday 7th March 2025. I am pleased to confirm that Harry Allcorn has been duly elected as Student Governor (Hastings & Ore Valley) for a 1-year term**.
