World Cancer Day is celebrated globally so that everyone can come together on the same day every year to take steps against cancer. Its aims are to prevent millions of deaths by raising awareness and educating people about cancer and its affects.
There are many awareness days, weeks and months across the year which celebrate some of the more common cancers like breast cancer, skin cancer etc. but World Cancer Day is there to celebrate all types of Cancers no matter how rare they are.
Closing the Care Gap is split into three years.
2022 was about Realising the Problem recognising the inequality in Cancer care around the world. It is seeing that there are many factors that act as barriers to cancer patients getting diagnosis and treatment. These factors can be income, education and discrimination among many other factors. This inequality can affect anyone however it can be changed and that is what we are striving for.
2023 was about Uniting our voices and taking action which involves coming together and spreading the word in the fight for fairness.
2024 is about Together, we challenge those in power which involves bringing attention to the higher level. Engaging those with a power to make a difference and giving all patients access to equal health care.
