A Chance For Students To Speak

World Mental Health Day 2023 provides a chance for individuals and communities to come together under the theme ‘Mental health is a universal human right.’ This important day of awareness aims to develop understanding, increase awareness and inspire initiatives that foster and safeguard the mental wellbeing of all, acknowledging it as a fundamental human right.

Staff and students from East Sussex College Hastings were able to met with a variety of stall holders including Councelling Plus, Samaritians, FSN, as well as our own Health and Wellbeing Team in our pop-up park. Students were quick to speak to the Samaritans who had alot of freebies on offer whilst our wellbeing team had free tea, coffee and hot chocolate and had popping candy to support mindfulness techniques.

We also had youth workers from Holy Trinity Hastings as we launch a brand new club in collaboration called ‘Here To Listen’. A chance for students to engage in youth work at ESC with local leaders who are there to listen to students in a calm and relaxed environment. This could be whilst playing board games, drinking coffee, creating art or anything inbetween.

Dan Glover, Student Experience Coordinator at East Sussex College Hastings said “It’s important to be able to feel comfortable talking about when things are going well and not going so well. Thank you to our amazing vendors who gave up their time to speak to our students and support them in next steps with their wellbeing.”
