An insight into autism - the real story
Written by Kirsty Hepworth
Autism effects everyone differently. It can be a super-power but also a frustration as you are trying to understand yourself as much as others are.
One minute you are ok, the next you’re not sure of yourself.
When an Educational Psychologist provides a diagnosis from asking a bunch of questions and provides a conclusion it can help people understand themselves and ways of dealing with their diagnosis.
A diagnosis can help people learn about themselves, but it is important to remember people can decide to take or leave you, because at the end of the day it shouldn’t be a problem if you learn and think differently.
Dyslexia and autism as a super-power
If you have autism and dyslexia, the dyslexic side can be just as frustrating as autism because dyslexics have to try to write very hard, remembering spelling, grammar, and all the other parts of the English language.
I would recommend getting an English teacher because they can be amazing and really help with functional English skills or GCSE support, in terms of understanding English as well as helping to piece parts of the English puzzle together to get a good grade.
It can be frustrating at first but with the right help and practice it can get better when you at work at it and put a lot of effort in.
What can be frustrating actually makes you work harder and becomes a super-power rather than a frustration if you think about it that way.
Excellent advice
Don’t give up! The less you try the less you will achieve and you won’t get the result you want.
It takes a lot of effort and responsibility, but you have to try your best and even when the going gets tough just keep on chugging along until you get to where you want to be.
Also try to enjoy the journey as well as the destination because part of the learning experience is how you get there.
