ESC Lewes Chemists Ignite Sparks at STEM Festival
On Saturday, November 11th, the vibrant town of Lewes was abuzz with scientific excitement as ESC Chemistry students took centre stage at the Lewes STEM Festival held in the town hall.
The festival, dedicated to showcasing the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM), drew quite a crowd, ranging from older adults, all the way through to families with young budding scientists as low as 3-4 years old! The event proved to be a resounding success, with enthusiastic attendees continuing to flock to the stalls even after the fair's official closing time.
ESC set up a stall aimed at promoting our college and engaging the community in the fascinating world of science. One of the highlights was a demonstration involving red cabbage pH. Attendees participated in a hands-on experiment, using scientific equipment such as pipettes to introduce different solutions to the red cabbage solution, witnessing colour changes unfold right before their eyes. There were some very enthusiastic young scientists that repeated the experiment several times over!
Our interactive station, featuring a "make your own badge" activity, proved to be a hit among festival-goers. Excited children formed queues, eagerly crafting their unique badges by either drawing imaginative designs or selecting from our array of pre-drawn images. It became a memorable experience for both the participants and our team.
Although the captured images were limited to the moments before the official opening of the stall, they beautifully captured the calm before the storm of community members eager to immerse themselves in the wonders of STEM. The dedicated students in the images, from left to right, are Gabriel, Amir, and Jude, who played pivotal roles in making the ESC Lewes Chemistry stall a focal point of scientific engagement and community connection.
